A call to redesign public tenders in infrastructure

Sustainable infrastructure4.png

Advokatfirman Oebergs is honoured to serve public bodies with complex legal issues in the infrastructure sectors. Our competence in these areas is unmatched – no legal professionals in Sweden have worked in railway and shipping for as long as we have, and we are proud of the achievements we have contributed with in both areas.

Nevertheless, Advokatfirman Oebergs has decided to treat public tenders with much reservation from this point forward. The reason is that the tenders’ evaluation schemes do not benefit specialists like us. With our legal experience and expertise, Advokatfirman Oebergs can – with no take-off distance – address legal issues with unparalleled distinction. We also take pride in always making the most senior legal advisor the clients’ contact person. It makes us more efficient, more knowledgeable and more accountable during large-scale projects.

Yet, we have noticed that most public offices are designing their public tenders to gain support from law firms which offer:

  • Low prices.

  • Large teams with many inexperienced associates

  • Many alternative firms which can share the projects.

This is not the ideal of Advokatfirman Oebergs. We have been involved in sea- and land transport since 1980 and we know the value of specialist competence. Neither do we acknowledge the need of having a large number of employees, as competence is not a function of the number of involved individuals.

Advokatfirman Oebergs will be involved in the infrastructure sectoris for a long time ahead, and we trust public officials to change their procurement practices
