OEBERGS celebrates new Swedish wind power record

Advokatfirman OEBERGS partakes in the celebration of a new Swedish wind power record. For the first time ever, more than 1 TWh of wind energy has been generated in the country within a week. This secures wind power’s position as Sweden’s third most important energy source. The record is attributable both to unpredictable natural forces and to predictable market forces, says OEBERGS' Senior Partner Anna Öberg, who expects more records in the coming years.

The measurement of over 1 TWh of wind energy in one week, measured in January 2020, erased a recent peak of 0,8 TWh, set in December 2019. The frequency of these record-breaking measurements is in part attibutable to unusually windy weather conditions in Sweden. A low-pressure system and strong winds have been very favorable to the wind power production this winter - especially in Northen Sweden where a large share of the wind farms are located.

Among the predictable factors leading up to the new record is a growing professionalism and sophistication on the legal market with regards to wind power agreements. Sweden has in recent years entered a new era of large-scale wind power contracts, leading to record-breaking agreements for global, energy-intensive companies in particularly the tech industry. Advokatfirman OEBERGS is proud to be a part of this development, and incited to provide our support in future record-breaking agreements :

”As legal professionals we cannot control the natural conditions which make winds blow. We can however create legal environments in which clients can reap the most out of the given natural conditions. Though assitance in financing, contractual arrangements, technological advice, and regulatory support, we help investors maximize the benefit of their wind power investments. In this way, we are eager to see increasing wind power investments in upcoming years, and thus celebrate more wind power records.”
